Of Sunset & Feast

May 14 marks the second time I attend Tourism Selangor events. After My Selangor Story 2010, we have the Selangorlicious! Foodster Competition and in conjunction of it, the Blog & Roll at the Golden Palm Tree Resort Food Festival. The invitation card itself is already a temptation. Imagine setting foot on one of those Palm tree branches. The lovely antic touch of the invitation card is another add.

So, with the VIP-like invitation, I stepped on the journey with my two college friend who blog, either publicly or privately. In our pseudo-Hawaiian outfit, we made our way to the headquarter of the Tourism Selangor. Despite its strategic location right in front of Wisma MBSA and nearby the Plaza Alam Sentral, PKNS and SACC, the building is rather hidden. It actually took us a while to notice the office.  DSC03748
A bit of Wisma MBSA.

Our expedition from Shah Alam to Sepang spanned over a period as long as one round of "Resident Evil V”. It was filled with occasional chatter with Eddie Azman who pens CakapNiaga.com and occasional nap. When the building became scarcer and the oil palm estates become ubiquitous, we then knew that we were near the Sepang Gold Cost. The place was actually not far away from where my BTN (Biro Tata Negara) Camp.
As how Tourism Selangor event usually goes, we received VIP welcome minus the red carpet when we boarded off the bus. The Blog & Roll was started off with the Sunset Photo Competition. With their cameras (ranging from DSLR to borrowed cameras like yours truly), the bloggers went on to scout for the best angles to capture the twilight. Without further ado, I shall present you the Sepang Golden Palm Tree Resort in dusk.
Here is the exteriors of the resort where we were disallowed to enter for the privacy of the tourists. I love the tropical-feel roofs very much.

As the time approached 7 p.m., the sun started to submerge hiding itself behind the wooden roofs.

Dusk is when deep thoughts strike. Moment of contemplation on life.

The sinking sun bear witness to the fun and friendship of these volleyball players.

Here too, couples pledge their love to the sea and the sunset, leave their footprints on the sand.

In the sand, too, children fill their curiosity and build their dream sandcastle.

This is one of my favorite sunset photos. I like the way the twilight shone upon the seemingly wrinkled beach which at some point, looks like water waves.

And this is not all. Sepang Golden Palm Resort is an ambitious project on its own. Luxurious hotels and other resorts will be built nearby. Imagine waking up in the morning being greeted by the morning breeze and the gorgeous palm-tree-archipelago. DSC03822
Sunset is a feast for eyes and soul. Yet, the Blog and Roll Food Exhibition which soon followed suit was the real feast. A treat for growling tummy.
Our feast started off with the “Bila-Bila” Bakery with a whole cart-load of nicely baked and decorated breads. Breads that look so delicate and some, alive, that I couldn’t bear myself to swallow. I wonder how long it took for the chefs to come up with such masterpieces. Just take a look at the rabbit and the word “BAKERY”.

A bakery doesn’t only serve breads and biscuits, it seems. On that night, Bila-Bila actually brought us a trishaw-load of fresh food. Even sweeter, Bila-Bila presented us with the Chocolate Chef serving cups of macaroon.  Believe it or not, it was the first time I heard the term. A new vocab for me, hooray! See the Hawaiian-dressed guy in the top left picture. He was the one who introduced to us the marvel of macaroon. I still remember how he said “You should have just eaten it on the spot. It tastes nice”

The amusing facial expression of the Bila-Bila staffs was another plus for them.
Next, we moved on to the “Perahu”. As how it was aptly named (Perahu is the Malay word for boat), it presents to us with freshly barbecued seafood including the likes of salmon, prawn and crab. The Perahu seemed to be the most popular (judging from the queue) and the most publicized (judging from how many times the MC mentioned it) of all the five food stands that night.
However, the quality of the cooking was well disappointing. While the seafood served are fresh, the inexperienced kitchen staffs handling it spoiled all its freshness. The salmon was either undercooked or overcooked. The insincere manner of the staffs flipping the salmon also affected my mood in enjoying the feast. Similar complaint also came from other bloggers who were present. Not all about Perahu was lackluster, though. The fried black pepper crab was of the same standing as other restaurants I had been to.

A surprising feast came later. Not of eyes. Not of tummy. But of ears. The organizers have arranged for performances such as the African musical instrument, Didgeridoo shown in the picture below. There were also dances and fire-spitting. Video editing is still ongoing. Will update soon.

It was also during that night that we met with an interesting performer who also happens to be a Uztaz and a lecturer in KLIUC. He is not just mere roadside performer. His performing groups (yes, plural) also join KL Street Drummers at times. I especially like the way he talks about his passion, music. In the following picture, he (on the right) was explaining to my friend (Chi Liang) about how human body parts alone can create music like a breeze. Good conversation is not a thing to miss. So time passed by quickly without us knowing it. It was already towards the end of the Blog and Roll when our conversation ended. So, that is about it. I only managed to try out 3 out of the 5 food stands that night. Alas, it is all past.
